Rainy Sunday doesn’t keep Out Scuba down

Matt Constantine holding his prize, the DryFob

We had our first Out Scuba social on March 30th, and it was a resounding success. Thanks to support from local businesses we gave away over $500 in door prizes, plus got a demonstration on sidemount diving from instructor member Eric Taylor and had a great time eating some awesome pizza. But, of course, mother nature played her trump card and showered us with some March/April showers and thunderstorms. That’s what we get for living in a subtropical area.

One of the primary goals of Out Scuba is to create community and we saw that happening as 24 members and future members gathered together to talk about the sport we all love. We compared notes about favorite dive sites, had a brief business meeting, and then still had the rest of the day to enjoy a rainy Sunday afternoon. And the prizes! Fabulous prizes! Matt won the DryFob, Paul, Dave and Eric won the Force-E apparel and Tom, Robbie and Nicholas all grabbed very nice e-learning gift certificates from Scuba Network.

Prize winners from our first Out Scuba social

Door prize winners from our first ever Out Scuba social event included long time members and some new friends, too.

During the business meeting we went over the following items:

  • Thanks to Joe and Christopher for hosting the event.
  • Thanks to Andre for his support with the banking and IRS setting up the club.
  • Thanks to our corporate supporters Scuba Network, Force-E and DryFob. Remember: one of the goals of Out Scuba is to interface with the wider dive community and these three businesses have responded to our outreach very favorably, including providing our door prizes for this party. Please support them back!
  • Thanks to our instructor members who were present and shared the dream of carrying the message of dive equality to everyone.
  • Thanks to Eric Taylor for giving us a demonstration of sidemount equipment.
  • Upcoming Activities:
  • Report on the Club
    • Building members quickly, up to 24 as of 3/29/2025
    • Please follow us on social media
    • We are solvent and have about $200 in the bank after today’s event
    • Please consider contributing to support the club using our fundraising page. Remember we are fundraising for a purpose to support more club events above water, building collateral like tee-shirts and dive flags, and support South Florida coral restoration and marine conservation.
    • Christopher’s Dream for Out Scuba: everything we’ve talked about plus training for people with HIV and LGBTQIA+ youth, support of LGBTQIA+ organizations in destinations we visit and eventually even opening chapters in other cities
  • Everyone is encouraged to spread the word about the club to their friends and let us know how we can help you spread the word.
  • Currently looking for Board Members. Please reach out to Andre or Christopher if you’d like to become involved.
