Interested in an easy wreck dive? Look no further! Join us for an exciting drop onto the Ancient Mariner wreck in Pompano Beach. Originally built as a USCG cutter and later used in World War II, this ship eventually became the Ancient Mariner and was a floating restaurant in 1981. Sunk in 1991, the 165-foot ship sits upright and is within Open Water scuba limits. The ship is full of life and colorful fish regularly swim back and forth between it and the nearby reef. More advanced divers with good air consumption can also take a side trip to the Berry Patch Tug which is about 150′ away. After an appropriate surface interval, Skip will then drop us onto a fascinating structure know as Whale’s Tail Reef. The name is based on the contour that you can see in the image for this post. This site is not heavily visited and only recently discovered, and a number of otherwise skittish and larger fish tend to congregate here away from the hub bub of more popular sites. This site is shallow and perfect for finding unusual creatures hiding in the nooks and crannies of the ledge reef system.
