We’ve had some members express interest in a June trip to Cozumel, and we may have found a solution that bridges our club’s current capacities and allows us to partner with Barnacle Busters, the oldest gay & lesbian scuba club in the United States. We met with Buck and Chris from Barnacle Busters last Tuesday and hit it off right from the start. They have a world of experience arranging dive trips to locations outside of the United States and have certainly run into their fair share of homophobia and transphobia in the dive industry since their start in 1988.
They gave us some great ideas for how to grow Out Scuba into the club we all know that it can be, and along the way mentioned their upcoming Cozumel trip June 7 – 14, 2025. They are more than willing to welcome Out Scuba members, and have arranged a great itinerary that includes 7 nights ocean front accommodations, three daily meals, bar, beverages, five days of 2-tank boat dives, unlimited shore diving, tanks, weights and the island’s Environmental Tax for $2,195 per person double occupancy. Airfare from South Florida is additional.
Why Cozumel?
Cozumel is a tropical paradise nestled off the coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula and is a dream destination for scuba divers worldwide. Renowned for its crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, and impressive coral reefs, Cozumel offers an unforgettable underwater experience. The island straddles the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest coral reef system in the world. The reef is teeming with marine life, including colorful corals, tropical fish, sea turtles, and larger predators like barracudas and reef sharks. Colombia Reef
Colombia Reef is another gem in Cozumel’s underwater treasure chest. This site features a mix of shallow coral gardens and deep walls, offering something for everyone.
Why It’s Famous: The towering coral pinnacles here create a labyrinth-like environment, attracting an array of marine creatures, including lobsters, eels, and the occasional dolphin.
