Atlantic staghorn coral, scientifically known as Acropora cervicornis, is a critically endangered species that plays a vital role in coral reef ecosystems. In Fort Lauderdale, these corals are making a remarkable comeback despite past challenges. We have a dive site called Staghorn Fields where you can see how important these corals are as a nursery for young fish and crustaceans. Remember: don’t touch! The corals thrive in shallow waters about 500 feet from shore.
